Also on behalf of the Rainbow Den Haag foundation, Adam father center and COC Haaglanden, I invite you to the Hague premiere of the documentary 'My Child'. After the screening of the film, there is a dialogue in the presence of the director and some actors.

“My Child” is a documentary, directed by Can Candan, about a very courageous and inspiring group of mothers and fathers in Turkey, parents of lesbian, gay, bisexual and transgender (LGBT) people. Not only have they gone through the difficult path of accepting their children for who they are, but have subsequently decided to share their experiences with other LGBT families and the public.

After the film, we talk to representatives of the Turkish community in The Hague and other interested parties. Can the subject be discussed in The Hague or is there still a long way to go? And what are the experiences of Turkish LGBT people and their parents here?

You are cordially invited to attend this evening and to participate in the subsequent dialogue. It is not only in Turkey that it is extremely difficult to discuss the position of LGBT people and their families. The subject is also sensitive in the Turkish community in the Netherlands. The director and some actors have come over from Turkey to share their experiences with you and answer your questions during this evening.

Director Can Candan: “From the moment we decided to make this film, in the fall of 2010, dozens of LGBT people have been killed in Turkey, and hundreds elsewhere in the world. We must end the violence and discrimination against LGBT people now. In this fundamental struggle for human rights, we can learn a lot from these courageous and inspiring parents.”
