International Gay Monument The Hague

Since the (re)unveiling, a ceremony has taken place at the monument on 4 May every year on the occasion of National Remembrance Day in general and the fight for equal rights for and the emancipation of the global LGBT group in particular.
The commemorative meetings are organized by the International Gay Monument Foundation The Hague in collaboration with COC Haaglanden. The International Gay Monument The Hague is beautifully situated on the green belt of the Koningskade, opposite the Royal Academy of Art.

This year's ceremony will revolve around the theme of 'trust'. This theme is all the more topical after the violent incident against two gay men in Arnhem at the beginning of April and the reactions to this within the LGBT community.

Vera Bergkamp, former chairman of COC NL and now a member of the House of Representatives for D'66, has promised to express this theme as a speaker. In addition, there will be a representative of the municipal council of The Hague and the chairman of the COC Haaglanden, Arnout van Kooij.

A wreath will be laid on behalf of the College of Mayor and Aldermen, followed by representatives of other local and regional organizations such as the Municipality of The Hague, COC Haaglanden, The Hague Police and Fire Brigade, Rainbow Foundation and the Gay Hospitality of The Hague. Organizations that also want to lay a flower arrangement or wreath can report to international.homomonument@gmail.com.

The ceremony starts at 19.30:XNUMX PM. Everyone is welcome to attend this memorial. The request is to be present 10 minutes earlier.

After the ceremony there is an opportunity for the participants in the ceremony to gather in the COC café, Scheveningseveer 7, 2518 HB, The Hague (opposite the Hilton Hotel), where coffee and tea is offered by the COC Haaglanden.
