On May 4, the Netherlands commemorates the victims of the Second World War and subsequent war situations and peace missions. A ceremony will also take place at the International Gay Monument at the Koekamp in The Hague. The monument commemorates all LGBTI people in the world who have been or are being persecuted and oppressed because of their sexuality.

This year, 2019, the May 4th ceremony will take place for the 25th time. To underline this momentous occasion, the Minister of Education, Culture and Science, Ms Ingrid van Engelshoven, will speak. Three LGBTi choirs will frame the meeting with songs.

The ceremony starts at 19:30 PM. Everyone is welcome to attend this memorial. The request is to be present 10 minutes earlier.

Afterwards there will be an opportunity for the participants of the ceremony to gather in the COC café, Scheveningseveer 7, 2518 HB, The Hague (opposite the Hilton Hotel), where coffee and tea will be offered by COC Haaglanden. The minister will also be present.

The commemoration event is organized by the International Gay Monument Foundation The Hague in collaboration with COC Haaglanden.
