Internet domains (TLDs) come in many types. There are country codes, such as .nl, and general domains, such as .com. The organization that identifies these domains, ICANN, plans to award multiple domains. Below are .shop, .sport, .eco, .berlin and also .gay.

To prevent .gay from falling into the hands of entrepreneurs who sell domain names for the highest price, an organization has been set up to try to obtain the domain name for the LGBT community. Two-thirds of the profits made from the sale of .gay domain names will go back to LGBT non-profit organizations.

The organization, dotgay LLC, has called on all LGBT organizations to support this endeavor. Broad support is an important point in the assessment of the application by ICANN. Many organizations have now expressed their support. Following the example of other Dutch and European organisations, the board of COC Haaglanden has decided to provide the requested support at the suggestion of the Politics & Abroad working group.

COC Haaglanden joins a long line of organizations with this. Other supporters include COC Netherlands, IHLIA and GALE from the Netherlands and our international partners ILGA, ILGA-Europe, Çavaria (Flanders), RFSL (Sweden) and LGL (Lithuania).
