Parties and safety go hand in hand

DARE, the one-year-old community for lesbian, bisexual and transgender women in The Hague, is organizing its first DARE Festival on Saturday 13 September in the De Bink building on Binckhorstlaan in The Hague. Guests are Member of Parliament Vera Bergkamp, fashion journalist and NRC columnist Aynouk Tan, Turkish activist Döne Fil, award-winning DJ Sjeazy Pearl and Dutch Amy Winehouse.

The program starts at 13.00 p.m. and is versatile. During the talk show, emancipation, safety and empowerment are discussed. Hostess is Ingrid Jansen, known for RTL's Telekids and Avro's Junior Dance. After this, visitors can choose from four workshops: 'How does fashion shape your identity?' taught by Aynouk Tan, 'Resilience' provided by Movisie, 'Faith, does God fit into a modern life?' led by pastor and founder of the International Pink Church in The Hague Barbara Rogoski, 'Self-acceptance, shaping your life after you come out' led by COC social worker Marianne Steijnis. In addition to the four workshop, we proudly present the documentary We also want a child by Mirella van Markus television presenter known for (SBS6) Hart van Nederland and (KRO) Goedemorgen Nederland.

Safety
“DARE was created a year ago to meet women, discuss and dance. That is exactly what we want to do during this festival”, says organizer Hodo Essa. In addition, the talk show focuses on safety and empowerment. “These are important themes during the festival”, says her colleague Susan Kemerink. “Every week there are on average three reports of anti-gay violence in the Netherlands. Furthermore, research including that of Movisie shows that aggression and violence against lesbian, bisexual and transgender women occurs more often than previously thought, but that these victims report violent incidents less than gay men. So it is high time to shed some light on this theme!” Member of Parliament Vera Bergkamp (D66) is committed to this. During her period as chairperson of COC Netherlands, she started the discussion about 'refusing officials' and worked on making it compulsory for students to receive information about sexual diversity. During the DARE Festival she will take the stage next to, among others, Döne Fil, ambassador of Respect2Love and initiator of the first Turkish boat during the Canal Parade last year.

Entertainment and party
During the dinner show from 18.00 pm, visitors can eat at the same time and enjoy performances by the Scottish singer Anna McDonald, the singer-songwriter Micky Kieboom from The Hague and Amy Winehouse impersonator LikeAmy. The festival ends with a party from 22.00 pm to 3.00 am where you can dance to the beats of DJ Sjeazy Pearl (winner of the BNN program Beauty & The Beat), top DJ Promiss, our elegant trendy DJ Miss T known from Soulheaven , The Hague Pride, the Lesbian Festival and Vive la Vie and last but surely not least dj Merel Honer.

Hopefully more women will find their way to the DARE community after the festival. Every month on Friday there is the DARE Table where people dine together and on Sunday there is a service of the International Pink Church. A few times a year the discussion group DARE2Talk is organized where further discussions are held on subjects that are a bit exciting. All this takes place in the BastaCafé of COC Haaglanden on the Scheveningseveer.

Workshops are free, dinner show and party together € 15,00.
