On Tuesday afternoon, June 30, the Delfland Water Board signed an agreement with Workplace Pride, a foundation that strives for greater acceptance of lesbians, gays, bisexuals and transgenders (LGBTs) in the workplace and in society. This makes Delfland the first water board to increase the visibility of LGBT people within the organization and thus promote acceptance.

“It is important that employees can be themselves within the organization where they work,” says secretary-director Paul van den Wijngaart. “People who can openly admit their sexuality within their organization work better and set an example for others. This also benefits the working atmosphere.”

Workplace Pride encourages the establishment of LGBT networks within companies and organisations. By realizing this, they hope that it will pave the way for other minorities and thus increase the diversity of employees.
