Below is the poem that Roxanne van den Berg (ambassador COC Haaglanden) read during the unveiling of the International Gay Monument, on April 26, 2015:

Denouement

The image of desire
breaks with the past.
No future, nor past tense.
Only the now that fights for the truth.

The ribbons are entwined
Defied fate
The knots slide further
The unknown unravels.

Every ribbon requires a denouement…
Being caught by other
but enlightened by courage
hope is experiencing a new face.
No one is going crazy anymore
or is blinded.
It's the hub of love
that connects us.

Together we weave a world of
tolerance.
An outstretched hand, a safety net
for every nationality.

A skyline of dreams
risen from the ashes
A colorful perspective
that blows in the wind
as green as grass.

Shining with pride
is there a symbol
for eternity.
A tangible sign
allowing The Hague to visibly look further afield.

Stuck for a life
of being together.
Inseparable.

Be yourself.

Roxanne van den Berg,
Ambassador COC Haaglanden
