The Hague - The municipality of The Hague should no longer pay any attention to gay emancipation. That is what Arnoud van Doorn thinks. He is the leader of the Islamic Unity Party. Interest organization COC and fellow politicians reacted furiously in Algemeen Dagblad on Thursday.

Van Doorn is a former PVV member who converted to Islam last year. He denounces the attention that GroenLinks, D66 and the PvdA devote to homosexuality in their election programmes. "They promote homosexuality," he explains in the AD.

'There are gays, but that doesn't mean you have to name them,' says Van Doorn. "You shouldn't give it any extra attention."

'Gay emancipation is desperately needed'
According to Maxim van Ooijen of gay interest organization COC Haaglanden, Van Doorn's statements show that gay emancipation is desperately needed.
