01-04-2016 | A large majority of residents of The Hague have no problem with homosexuality. Yet one in four find it offensive when two men kiss in public. This is evident from the city panel of the municipality of The Hague that was published on Thursday. About a thousand residents of the Hofstad participated in the study.

The annual survey also shows that almost all panel members in The Hague have no problem with their child being taught by a gay teacher (95%). Nine out of ten panellists believe that gay men and lesbians should be able to live their lives the way they want (93%), same-sex marriage should not be abolished (90%) and find it acceptable for their child to live with a partner. same-sex partner (86%). One in four panellists finds it offensive when two men kiss in public (25%). They find this less offensive for two women (18%). They have the least difficulty with a man and a woman who kiss in public (14%). 13% of the panel members have more difficulty seeing two men walking hand in hand than seeing a man and woman walking hand in hand. One in ten panel members from The Hague indicate that they find sex between two gay men (10%) disgusting, 6% of two lesbian women find this disgusting.

Less than one in ten panel members in The Hague think that bisexuals have not yet decided what their sexual preference is (7%) and that they are not capable of having monogamous relationships (7%). Friendship with bisexuals is not a problem for the majority (86%). 3% of the panel members do not feel comfortable with a bisexual person of their own sex or a person with a sexual preference for their own gender.
