More attention should be paid to the lifestyle of the 'pink' elderly in Zoetermeer. Employees of home and other care and welfare organizations must become more aware of the sexual diversity among their clients. It is also important to investigate whether there is a specific housing wish among this group and how they can strengthen their social network.

During the 'Empowerment Pink Elderly' meeting that took place on December 8, employees of various care and welfare institutions entered into a discussion with each other, with municipal policy officials and with experts in the field of housing and care, aimed at LGBT elderly (lesbian women). , Gay Men, Bisexuals and Transgenders). The purpose of the meeting was to find out how the organizations can better meet the housing and care needs of 'pink' Zoetermeer residents. The participants formulated various action points. A selection: bringing the position and wishes of LGBT elderly to the attention of their own care and welfare organisations, investigating the housing needs of 'pink citizens' and communicating better with Zoetermeer LGBT elderly about activities of the interest group COC Haaglanden, among others.

The meeting was organized by COC Haaglanden and the municipality of Zoetermeer. Now that the elderly are getting older and living independently for longer, LGBT people are confronted with specific issues. Friends do not always live nearby and it can be a barrier to making new contacts that the 'pink' lifestyle has to be repeatedly mentioned. In addition, informal care is not always a matter of course, if only because LGBT people often do not have children.
