It is with dismay and indignation that the COC Haaglanden has learned of the cowardly mistreatment of a resident of its region today, because of his sexual orientation. This incident, combined with last Saturday's incident in Amsterdam where a gay club employee was robbed and assaulted, demonstrates once again that there is a large gap between the theoretical rights of the LGBT community to freely express their sexual orientation and the daily practice. Statistics show a large increase in this type of violence in recent years. The COC Haaglanden further points out that in the Haaglanden region it is not even possible to report gay-related violence. With a better reporting policy, which COC Haaglanden has been advocating for a long time, gay-related violence can be made more transparent, enabling a more tailored policy to tackle this violence.
