Award ceremony on Wednesday 14 December, 19.00 hrs

The jury of the John Blankenstein Prize has just announced the nominations for 2016. The John Blankenstein Prize is the annual gay emancipation prize of the city of The Hague for an organisation, person or group of people who have contributed to LGBTI emancipation in The Hague. The award is named after the late referee John Blankenstein. The former referee openly admitted his homosexual orientation and has meant a lot to LGBT people within sport and society. With this prize, the municipality wants to contribute to the social and societal acceptance of LGBTI people in The Hague. At the request of the municipality, COC Haaglanden has been organizing this prize since 2007.

This year, three primary schools have been nominated. When nominating and assessing the candidates, the focus was on the attention they paid to the subject of sexual diversity at school. The three nominees for 2016 are:

  • OBS De Leeuwerikhoeve
  • First Dutch Montessori School
  • Primary school De Kleine Keizer
