THE HAGUE – On Saturday 20 June, not only Maastricht will turn pink. The Mallemolen Theater in The Hague is also celebrating the party with a special performance: the farewell of Joop, aka Miss Mighty M. A dazzling story about midlife, love and desire. Full of quotes and music by Madonna and poems by Jacob Israël de Haan. The farewell of Joop alias Miss Mighty M can be seen on Saturday 20 and Sunday 21 June.

I leave
The performance starts with the last performance of Miss Mighty M. Joop and his alter ego have not been doing well for a while. There is a lot of competition from young Travos. Moreover, the gay catering industry is on the brink, as a result of which the number of performances has been falling for years. Joop also lost his great love Sam and he notices that gay acceptance is increasingly under pressure. Around the 50s, the years begin to count and it is time to take stock. Friends recently talked about the vibrant nightlife in Tel Aviv. So, Joop gave up his job and bought a ticket. Tomorrow he will fly to Israel in the footsteps of Jacob Israël de Haan.

beyond measure demands
The farewell of Joop aka Miss Mighty M is inspired by the novel Pijpelijntjes by Jacob Israël de Haan. De Haan wrote the first novel in which a homosexual relationship is openly described. It cost him his job, reputation and love. His poems also often have homosexuality as their subject. A line of poems by Jacob Israël de Haan, Such an immense longing for friendship, adorns the gay monument in Amsterdam. De Haan's book is a source of inspiration, but translated to the here and now. In addition to spicy monologues, reflections on life, love and the current gay climate, there is also a lot of music and quotes from Madonna.
