Rainbow & Friends Meeting, a self-help group for alcohol and drug addicts with an LGBTI background has won the John Blankenstein Prize 2020.

Actually, this emancipation prize, named after the openly gay Hague football referee John Blankenstein, who died in 2006, should have been awarded at the end of last year. But because the Netherlands went into a strict lockdown, that could not continue.

There were more candidates for the prize. For example, writer, photographer and trainer Eveline van de Putte participated in her efforts to create a safe living and living environment for the elderly. Riyaz van Wegberg was nominated for his Spectrum Podcast, a series of broadcasts focusing on the queer movement.

Due to the wish to remain anonymous, the three winning volunteers will remain for the presentation of this municipal prize queer emancipation out of the picture.
