Family life in the Netherlands is becoming increasingly varied, more and more children in the Netherlands are growing up with two fathers or two mothers. However, the process of starting a family is more complicated for gays and lesbians than for straight couples and that is why an information meeting is being held on Sunday 20 November from 14:00 in the COC Haaglanden at the Scheveningseveer 7 in The Hague.

The meeting is organized by experts Ms. Ineke Heesterbeek, child wish coach, and mrs. Akycha Tegelaar, family lawyer.

They provide an overview of all the ins and outs in the practical, emotional and legal field that pink prospective parents encounter when designing a family. They take you through the process based on practical examples.

“There are many ways to build a pink family. But there is always another party involved. For example, a single straight woman who co-parents with a gay couple and for lesbian couples, a (known) donor is a good option. But there are also many other ways to start a family such as adoption, foster parenting and surrogacy.” said Ineke Heesterbeek, co-organizer of the afternoon.

“Founding a family is just a bit more complicated for pink couples than for straight couples, so it's important to highlight the legal side and inform prospective parents about legal aspects in advance,” said Akycha Tegelaar, co-organizer of the afternoon.

Children with two fathers and a mother or two mothers and a father are becoming more common. The desire to grow older is just as strong among the LGBT community as it is among heterosexuals.

COC Haaglanden therefore hopes to welcome all prospective fathers and intended mothers from The Hague and the surrounding area on 20 November.
