The International Coming Out Day will take place this weekend and that is a reason for Luuk Wessels (organizer Popcake and Cotton Candy) and councilors Kim Waanders (D66), Arjen Dubbelaar (Group de Mos) and Arjen Lakerveld to join forces and week to ask written questions in the Municipal Council of The Hague.

The foursome would like to see a colored zebra crossing in The Hague. According to them, The Hague as the International City of Peace and Justice should play a pioneering role in acceptance of and tolerance towards the LGBT community. We believe that the construction of a rainbow zebra crossing will contribute to the social acceptance of LGBT people.

On Friday morning, the Prinsegracht in The Hague was already equipped with a temporary rainbow zebra crossing for this special day. Saturday evening there will be a special Coming Out Day party in the Paard van Troje. During this hetero-friendly party, called Cotton Candy, DJs and performances by The Voice of Holland winners O'G3NE, among others, will take place.

During the “Coming Out Day” it is all about the moment when a gay, lesbian or bisexual openly expresses his or her preference. Or "coming out of the closet". Luuk Wessels thinks it is important to reflect on this in an accessible way this weekend with the Cotton Candy party.
