The subject Sexual Diversity in Bicultural Circles certainly also applies to The Hague. We would like to invite you to discuss this during Presentations, Round Table Discussion and Workshops. Below you will find the content program.  Registering can be done through a reply to: networker@cochaaglanden.nl

Target: exchange experiences, identify and solve bottlenecks, information about help and support and inventory plans and possibilities for cooperation

Date: Monday 1 June
Time: 16:00 am to 19:00 pm
Location: Riviervismarkt 2, The Hague (location PEP The Hague)

For peaceful coexistence in our super diverse city, acceptance of all lifestyles and cultures is necessary. After all, strength in The Hague means that all residents of The Hague participate and fight against prejudice and discrimination together. The principle of equality and the prohibition of discrimination are formulated in Article 1 of our Constitution. Discrimination based on religion, belief, political opinion, race, gender or any other ground is not allowed.

Unfortunately, many groups in The Hague society still cannot be who they are; they feel discriminated against and excluded. This applies, for example, to Muslim women with a headscarf, but also to lesbians, homosexuals, bisexuals and transgenders (LGBT).

Various studies have shown that the acceptance of sexual diversity by young people and by Dutch people with an immigrant background is difficult. This regularly leads to problematic situations, such as in education – where homosexual teachers are sometimes treated unfairly by immigrant students – and to cases of bullying on the street and in the neighbourhoods.

In addition, there are bi-cultural LGBT people in The Hague who are forced to renounce their sexual orientation because of social pressure and other cultural barriers in their own community.

The non-acceptance of sexual diversity is partly related to the fact that these 'taboo' topics are not sufficiently discussed within these communities.

PEP, COC Haaglanden and Haags Emancipatie Netwerk therefore want to contribute to making sexual diversity a topic for discussion among bi-cultural groups in The Hague with the theme meeting  on Monday, June 1, 2015 from 16:00 pm hour.

The following questions will be discussed during this meeting:

  1. What are the experiences with regard to making sexual diversity a topic for discussion among your supporters?
  2. Which bottlenecks are experienced in practice and how can these bottlenecks be overcome?
  3. What options are there for information, support and help for these groups?
  4. Are there plans or willingness to cooperate with regard to this theme? How can that be given concrete form?

In view of your contribution to the emancipation of your supporters in the city, we would like to invite you to this meeting to exchange ideas with us.

Snacks and drinks are provided. You're welcome!
