Today (20 November 2020) is Transgender Remembrance Day. Every year we commemorate the hundreds of trans- and gender-diverse people who were killed by violence all over the world that year. The Hague also commemorates all victims of the past twelve months: 350 in total. On a daily basis, people who do not meet the gender norm face exclusion and discrimination. In the Netherlands too, trans and gender diverse people are more often abused or threatened.

Just like everyone else, trans and gender diverse people need space and understanding for individuality. Unfortunately, we still have a lot of work to do to achieve a sense of security and acceptance.
