Paid vacancy: Community Builder

Do you want to build an inclusive, self-organizing queer community in The Hague? COC Haaglanden is looking for a Community Builder who supports our volunteers, strengthens initiatives and connects the queer community.

πŸ“ Location: The Hague, working from home possible

⏳ Commitment: 12 hours per week (0,33 FTE)

πŸ’Ό Employment: Annual contract (2025), in accordance with the Collective Labor Agreement for Social Work

πŸ’° Salary: Gross monthly salary between €1.416 and €1.666 (based on 0,33 FTE), excluding Individual Choice Budget, which still yields approximately 18% of the choice budget (including holiday pay and end-of-year bonus), depending on experience and classification.

Why this role is important

COC Haaglanden largely runs on volunteers and initiatives 'from within'. We have working groups for social encounters, support and discussion groups, open evenings, young, old, and everything in between! Plus all kinds of partners in the region that we like to work with. We see that some groups do not have the right tools, structure or support to let initiatives grow sustainably. We want to change that. As a Community Builder you help our volunteers and groups to build structural and sustainable communities. You give direction to the organization of activities, guide volunteers and make our offer more accessible and inclusive. In this way our community flourishes and we make the biggest impact for queer The Hague and surroundings with our building and our resources!

What are you going to do specifically?

1. Empower and support volunteers

βœ”οΈ Coach active volunteers in setting up and implementing initiatives.

βœ”οΈ Build and maintain a volunteer network so that the right people are involved in the right work groups.

βœ”οΈ Organizing training and intervision moments for volunteers.

2. Strengthening activities and communities

βœ”οΈ Develop new activities together with volunteers and further professionalize existing working groups.

βœ”οΈ Evaluate and optimize activities so that they better meet the needs of the target group.

βœ”οΈ Working according to the bottom-up principle: ensuring that initiatives are supported by the community itself.

3. Increase inclusivity and diversity

βœ”οΈ Connecting with underrepresented groups within the queer community in The Hague and surrounding municipalities.

βœ”οΈ Improve accessibility, for example for neurodiverse people, people with disabilities or bicultural queers.

βœ”οΈ Establish partnerships with other organizations and initiatives within and outside the queer network in The Hague.

4. Ensuring strategy and continuity

βœ”οΈ Contribute to the long-term strategy of COC Haaglanden in the field of community building.

βœ”οΈEvaluates whether objectives are achieved. Knows how to translate findings into sustainable actions.

What does an average working day look like?

A working day as a Community Builder might look like this:

Morning:

πŸ”Ή You start with a check-in with a group of volunteers who want to set up a new activity. They have an idea for a monthly meetup, but don't know how to organize it properly. You help them with a plan of action, task allocation and promotional strategy.

πŸ”Ή Next, you work on recruiting volunteers for an existing activity. You place a call on social media and email potential new volunteers.

Afternoon:

πŸ”Ή You have a meeting with another queer organization in The Hague. You discuss how you can organize activities together that better reach certain underrepresented groups.

πŸ”Ή Then you visit an ongoing activity, for example the Friday Meetup, to talk to volunteers and visitors. What is going well? What do they need help with? You identify areas for improvement and think about how to address them.
