On November 20, the transgender and gender-diverse people who have been killed in the past year will be commemorated worldwide, Transgender Remembrance Day. Since last year, there have been 375 fatalities worldwide, Transgender Europe recently announced. That is the highest number since the start of tracking this number in 2008. Transgender Remembrance Day is also a moment to pay attention to all transgender people who are confronted with violence, also in The Hague.

The Municipality of The Hague will be flagging at the International Gay Monument on this day for the first time this year. By raising the transgender flag in front of the Hague city hall, district offices, the Hofvijver and at the International Gay Monument on the Transgender Remembrance Day, alderman Kapteijns draws attention to transphobia, the differences in gender identity, the emancipation of trans people and we show our solidarity with the victims and their next of kin.

Alderman Kapteijns raised the flag at 09:30 at the International Gay Monument.
