On May 17, IDAHOT, International Day Against Homophobia & Transphobia, will take place worldwide. On the occasion of this day, the municipality of Zoetermeer, in collaboration with COC Haaglanden, will unveil a permanent rainbow runner at Centrum West station.

By means of the rainbow runner, the city wants to permanently show that it stands for diversity and acceptance of sexual minorities. Based on a motion initiated by Jamila Bakkers (D66), Daphne Disco (PvdA) and Jordy Boerboom (GroenLinks), the city council voted unanimously in October 2015 to make the rainbow carpet possible.

Alderman for Emancipation, Isabelle Vugs: 'It would be nice if every time someone walks on our colored carpet, that person wonders why it is there. The answer is that we in Zoetermeer believe that everyone belongs, whether you are gay, straight or transgender. As Rainbow City, we are committed to that.'

On Tuesday 17 May, alderman Isabelle Vugs will festively unveil the rainbow runner together with Arnout van Kooij, chairman of COC Haaglanden, and the members of initiators D66, PvdA and GroenLinks. The festivities will take place from 15.30:16.30 PM to XNUMX:XNUMX PM.

The festive unveiling is made possible by: Municipality of Zoetermeer, COC Haaglanden, Youth Work Zoetermeer and JIP Zoetermeer.
