Sunday, November 10, 2013 – at 14.00 p.m.

Bashgah Golshan and St. Rainbow The Hague have the pleasure of inviting you to the book launch of Ferdows Kazemi's 'The Unwanted Son'.

Ferdows Kazemi (1966) was born in Iran. In 1993 she came to the Netherlands. She studied General Social Sciences at the University of Utrecht and currently writes columns for Volkskrant.nl'. 'The unwanted son' is the impressive life story of Iranian Darya.

Darya gives birth to a son, but is not happy. From conversations with her sister Nushin at the hospital in Tehran, it becomes clear that Darya's accident is related to an event from her past.

A drama she never wanted to talk about, and which she also kept a secret from her husband. In flashbacks she tells her life story and paints a penetrating picture of the cultural, religious and political aspects of Iranian society. Homosexuality - a big taboo in Iran - plays an important role in her story. The novel is also a tribute to the 2009 green movement in Iran.
