From January 12, COC Haaglanden will start a special fundraising campaign for the fellow organization LGBTI Support Center in Skopje, Macedonia. English-language books and magazines are being sought for the library to be set up.

LGBTI Support group is trying to set up an accessible meeting center, like COC Haaglanden has. However, conditions in Macedonia are extremely hostile. In 2013, the center was attacked and vandalized by a frenzied mob. At the bottom of this article you will find a (shocking) Youtube video of these attacks. Nevertheless, the volunteers continue to provide a safe home base for lesbian women, gay men, bisexuals and transgenders (LGBTs). Their work is supported by the Dutch embassy in Skopje.

One of the great wishes for the center is a modest LGBT library for visitors, volunteers and sympathizers. In particular, English books and magazines are sought for this, but a number of French and German books are also welcome.

COC Haaglanden calls on all Haaglanders to donate literature, non-fiction and magazines with an LGBT theme to the LGBTI Support Group. The starting signal will be given during the New Year's reception on Sunday, January 12, 2014 from 16.00 p.m. in Basta, Scheveningseveer 7, The Hague.

Of course it is also possible to drop off books during opening hours or to put them in the letterbox outside. The fundraiser runs until the end of February. Then the collected books are sent to Skopje.
