The Gay Monument is being moved. After years of lobbying by COC Haaglanden, the municipality has succeeded in getting the municipality to move the meters high – and deep – monument to the green strip next to the Koningstunnel. In the middle of The Hague and in the middle of sight.

Chairman Harry Derksen of COC Haaglanden announced this last night after the election debate in Basta. He especially praised councilors Kim Waanders (D66) and Arjen Lakerveld (VVD) for their efforts. 'The gay monument is now in a bad spot. Afterwards, in a tram loop at Madurodam. That's not a place to gather. Thanks in part to Kim Waanders and Arjen Lakerveld, money has become available to erect the monument in a prominent place in the city.' The annual May 4 commemoration at the Homomonument attracts more interest every year.
