On May 4, at 20.00 p.m., we will pause for two minutes to commemorate the fallen of the Second World War. In The Hague, the International Gay Monument also commemorates all gays and lesbians who were persecuted and oppressed worldwide because of their sexual preference.

The International Gay Monument The Hague is beautifully situated on the green belt of the Koningskade, opposite the Royal Academy of Art.

Since the unveiling, a ceremony has taken place at the monument on May 4 every year on the occasion of National Remembrance Day in general and the fight for equal rights for and the emancipation of the global LGBTI group in particular. The commemorative meetings are organized by the International Gay Monument Foundation The Hague in collaboration with COC Haaglanden.

This year's ceremony will focus on the theme of 'equal rights for all'. This theme is all the more topical because the rights of the LGBTI community are under pressure in many countries.

Ms Sabine Nölke, ambassador of Canada in the Netherlands, a well-known supporter of LGBTI rights, has promised to express this theme as a speaker. In addition, the chairman of the COC Haaglanden, Mr. Arnout van Kooij, will speak.

A wreath will be laid on behalf of the Ministry of Security & Justice, followed by the College of Mayor and Aldermen of The Hague, representatives of other local and regional organizations such as COC Haaglanden, The Hague Police and Fire Brigade, Rainbow Foundation and the Gay Catering of The Hague.
Organizations that also want to lay a flower arrangement or wreath can report to international.homomonument@gmail.com .

The ceremony starts at 19.30:10 PM. Everyone is welcome to attend this memorial. The request is to be present XNUMX minutes earlier.

After the ceremony there will be an opportunity for the participants in the ceremony to gather in the COC café, Scheveningseveer 7, 2518 HB, The Hague (opposite the Hilton Hotel), where coffee and tea is offered by COC Haaglanden.
