Last Sunday a chalk action took place in the Huygenspark led by GroenLinks councilor Isabel Bos. This was in response to the destruction of the flag that we had raised again with alderman Kapteijns, after two previous vandalisms.
Initiator of the Queer Mind Foundation, Jean Bernard, called the speed and rise of this action moving: "Apparently a lot of people started to find this story bad, you don't realize it but everyone who was there knew what it was about ... so beautiful !โ€

The new flag has been hanging in the Huijgenspark since last week, but has now disappeared for the third time. 'Such a flag is not just a piece of cloth', says Isabel Bos, council member of GroenLinks in The Hague. "He unites a community of people who have to fight every day to show who they are." Isabel is one of the initiators of the protest. 'If you remove the flag, it affects people because you take away the visibility of themselves.' That is why they take action by chalking the sidewalk together with children and making the love for each other as visible as possible. The flag symbolizes being able to be who you are regardless of who you love, what you believe and what you look like. 'This is about a community that really isn't having an easy time,' explains the councilor. 'It's about people who constantly hear: 'You have to be different, you have to adapt to how we want you to be.' That is why it is extra painful that this flag is deliberately removed again and again.'
