In the Netherlands, an estimated 22.000 people are living with HIV. There is currently no cure. There are, however, HIV inhibitors: drugs for people with HIV that suppress the virus. Since 2012, one of these agents has also been used as a prevention tool against HIV: PrEP. This pill prevents you from contracting HIV, even if you have unsafe sex. PrEP is available on a doctor's prescription in the Netherlands, but is not yet reimbursed by health insurers. Should PrEP be made available to everyone at all times? COC Haaglanden will discuss this during a mini-congress on Tuesday 17 May in the city hall of The Hague.

The meeting starts with an introduction by Sieds Wildenbeest (Medical Center Haaglanden) in which he provides an update on HIV in the Netherlands and the possibility of curing or preventing HIV. This is followed by a panel in which Koen van Dijk (COC Netherlands) and Rob Huijsen (GGD Haaglanden) will take place. The panel discussion will be led by Willemijn de Koning (The Hague FM). The program starts at 13.30 pm (walk-in from 13.15 pm) and ends at 14.45 pm with a drink. Everyone is welcome to join the conversation. Due to the limited number of places available, we ask you to register via info@cochaaglanden.nl.
