The jury of the John Blankenstein Prize 2013 has nominated three organizations for this prize, which distinguish themselves by dedicating themselves to a safe environment in which everyone can express their sexual diversity.

The nominations for the John Blankenstein Prize 2013 are:

Workplace Pride The Hague/The Hague (dedicates to a safe working environment for the LGBT group)

Volunteer Information COC Haaglanden (dedicate themselves to a safe climate at school that offers room for a coming out)

ADO The Hague in Society (commits to coming out in sports)

The John Blankenstein Prize 2013 is the annual gay emancipation prize of the city of The Hague. The Municipality of The Hague established the prize in 2009 with the aim of being an instrument with which The Hague demonstrates its appreciation to an organisation, person or group of persons for their contribution to gay emancipation in The Hague. The annual award highlights the importance of making and keeping the theme of homosexuality a topic for discussion.

The 2013 award ceremony will take place on 2 November in the Spuitheater in The Hague during the We Are The Hague Festival (WATH Festival). The ceremony will be led by presenter/entrepreneur and former alderman Frits Huffnagel and the prize will be presented by Karsten Klein, alderman for Youth, Welfare and Sport.

With the WATH Festival, the gay community in The Hague wants and can take up a permanent position as a place where an active plea is made for gay emancipation on a national and international level. The WATH Festival is realized thanks to financial support from the Municipality of The Hague, Fonds 1818 and COC Haaglanden.
